Empowering Students in Foster Care
Ambition paired with education is what makes inspiring futures possible, but not everyone has the same opportunities to learn and achieve their goals. Students in or from foster care (also known as extended society care students), are particularly vulnerable to financial barriers that heavily impact their success in school. They may also lack family and community support, which can be crucial to developing confidence and achieving goals. In fact, less than 50 per cent of people from foster care graduate high school and less than five per cent graduate from post-secondary education. That's why, to help overcome these challenges, Humber Polytechnic introduced a bursary program specifically for students in foster care. And every year since its launch, we have raised funds to help provide bursaries to each and every Humber currently in foster care. By supporting this priority, you can help students currently in the care system overcome their unique financial challenges while showing all these students that our community stands behind their success.
Updates
1We're currently supporting 12 students who have experienced foster care. One student shared: "I never thought I'd make it to college. This program gave me hope and the support I needed to succeed." Your donations are changing lives. We're working to increase that number to 20 students next year. Thank you for your support!
